Building Resilience
Resilience is how well we're able to cope, adapt or 'bounce back' when we experience hardship or trauma. But it can also just include everyday life challenges too! Often stress and resilience are placed in the same space of our mind and body. Regardless of the name you call it…there are ways you can help yourself manage and build up your abilities to cope.
We all face burnout, compassion fatigue, and personal challenges in our life. And lets be honest…the news these days isn’t helping. So what can we do?
5-5-5 Breathing Reset
The 5-5-5 technique involves inhaling for 5 seconds, holding for 5 seconds, and exhaling for 5 seconds. Repeat as many times as you need to feel more calm.
'The 'Tomorrow Self' Technique
What can I do now that my tomorrow self will thank me for?'"
5-Minute Worry Time
Put on a timer for 5 mins and write down all of the things that are in your mind as worries. Sometimes it helps to ‘name them to tame them.’ Give yourself this time to process them so you’re not taking up space all day long with worries or stresses.
Guided Meditation
Doing a guided meditation either on an app or joining us at the studio is a helpful tool. This space allows you to create some distance between your current thoughts and giving your mind and body rest. Turning inward can also offer insight.
Shake It Baby, Shake it!
Move that body! We store emotion in the body and shifting it can help us build resilience. Whether you try yoga, put on a fav song and dance or just shake your arms while jumping up and down…the actual shake can help you shake the emotions.
Nourish Your Body
Resiliency is stronger when you're feeling your best. Good nourishment is so vital for this support. When you aren’t crashing from a sugar high or starving your body from the energy it needs…you will feel more balanced.
CONNECT!
Being with others is important. Connection is key for mental and physical health. Plus sharing with others can help you build that resiliency as it’s probably certain you’re not the only one to go through what you’re struggling with.
Grrrrrrrrrratitude!
Remember Tony-The-Tiger and Frosted Flakes??? Not really relevant to this conversation, but when I typed it like this - that’s the voice I heard and it made me smile….so I am hopeful you feel the same - ha ha ! Back to the real topic - practicing gratitude. Incredibly helpful tool that is backed by science! Thinking it, writing it down, sharing those thoughts with others….what are you grateful for today?
